SPARROW SHOW HOME TO BENEFIT INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED
DateJune 8, 2019
Craig Smith Building and 18 local businesses partner to support The Sparrow Project
An exceptional home by Craig Smith Building in the Rivendell addition, SW OKC’s premiere development, will be artfully and creatively decorated by 18 outstanding local businesses to benefit a growing, local non-profit. The Sparrow Show Home will be open to the public from June 8th until June 23rd, 2019, with all entrance proceeds going entirely to The Sparrow Project in support of services to intellectually disabled adults.
“The Sparrow Project fills a huge gap for those with special needs in our community and we wanted to help. The local businesses that have jumped in are bringing something to this home for everyone. Great design and furnishings, outdoor living ideas and even some surprises in the garage spaces,” said builder Craig Smith.
The Sparrow Project is a non-profit, faith based organization designed to create a safe environment for post high school adults with intellectual disabilities that promotes happy and fulfilled lives through job skills, life skills, creative interests, and social activities.
“Each year, many special needs students between the ages of 18 and 22 age out of public school systems and experience dwindling options for social interaction, job skills training and enrichment classes. This shift often means these young people are left home alone or their families must give up an income to provide a fulltime care-giver,” shared Allison Richey, The Sparrow Project’s founder. Richey initially teamed with a handful of families in the Moore/SW OKC area and has continually expanded in an effort to include all those in need of services. The goal of this event is to generate the funds needed to eliminate waitlists for classes and allow all those eligible to fully participate in the range of opportunities The Sparrow Project offers each month.
